Another anonymous prize claim, this time for $1 million. On Wednesday a 60-year-old St. Clair County woman visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to anonymously claim a $1 million prize. She chose to receive her winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,000, rather than annuity payments for the full amount.
This 60-year-old lucky player won the $1 million prize playing Super Bonus Cashword, an instant crossword scratch ticket game launched by the Michigan Lottery in March of last year. She bought her Super Bonus Cashword winning ticket at a Speedway gas station, located at 2611 Ravenswood Road in Port Huron, a city within Clair County in the U.S. state of Michigan.
According to a statement released by the Michigan Lottery, it took this lucky woman two days to realize she’d won the $1 million prize.
When she first scratched the ticket off, she thought she had only won $500, so she went back to the Speedway gas station, where she had bought the ticket, to cash, what she believed was a small prize.
However, the Speedway counter clerk told her they weren’t able to cash her ticket, and never gave her the reason why. So, she took back her ticket and headed home. It wasn’t until the second day when she decided to go over her ticket one more time, that she realised she had ten winning words worth a $1,000,000 prize.
“This can’t be real!” she thought. “So, I called the Michigan Lottery’s Public Relations number and when a voice on the other end of the phone confirmed I’d won $1 million, I started shaking so much I dropped the phone.”
So far, Michigan Lottery players have won over $39 million Super Bonus Cashword, since the game launched in March 2017. Each Super Bonus Cashword cost $20 and offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $20 up to $1 million. More than $53 million in prizes remain, including two $1 million top prizes, 47 $5,000 prizes, and 469 $1,000 prizes.
