A Sanilac County man struck gold after purchasing several lottery tickets on a whim, winning a $1 million prize with the Michigan Lottery’s Diamond Wild Time instant game.
The 32-year-old, who opted to remain anonymous, bought his winning ticket at Scott’s Quik Stop on 5 North Van Dyke Road in Marlette, about 50 miles east of Saginaw. “When I stopped at the store, I bought five lottery tickets on a whim,” said the player. “I started scratching them off in my car, and when I saw the star symbol with ‘1MIL’ underneath on my Diamond Wild Time ticket, I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t until my girlfriend scanned it on the Lottery app and $1 million came up on the screen that it finally hit me that I really won! It is an unbelievable feeling.”
The lucky winner recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He chose a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,000 rather than receiving annuity payments for the full amount. He plans to save his winnings.
